Recap

16 Aug

No, there is no excuse for neglecting the blog for 10 whole days. But then, I did it, did I not?

Life has been extremely occupying! In 3 days, I’ll complete a month at work. Tomorrow, I’ll be introduced to my team/home for the next year and a half, and will commence working “US Day Shifts” or hopefully, “Europe Day Shifts”. My only concern remains that I get to snatch some time to meet/date, but well… one will have to find a workaround.

Today, I caught a play in the afternoon, a one-man show (except that he was a woman). Amazing performance, amazing capacity (to act on stage for 75 minutes, non-stop!) I’d gone for the play with A, who I shall henceforth call Nimit. After the play, I invited him to my home for the first time, we made coffee, conversation and just about the time we had removed each others’ trousers, the sister came banging on the door. Gahhh!

Thankfully she hasn’t asked what we were doing in the locked room thus far, or why it took a bit of time to open it. My carefree approach to being discovered disappeared the moment she was in front of me. Gahh! What I did get, from the episode, was a snap of us making out 🙂 Now I have a memory!

Anyway, tons has been happening at work. I was mixing brilliantly, I was entertaining, the HR called me aside to lecture me on being respectful and not going too far in pulling peoples’ legs in jest, I discovered that both the HR lady and the Director of the team I’m going to be working on (both of whom had interviewed me for like 20 mins) seem to remember my name (:-) ). On Friday night, 9 of us from work went to a shadyish club, so I had my first (straight) night-out in Bangalore! 7 of them came back home with me, 4 (the guys) left at 4 a.m. and the three girls left the next morning. FUN! I’ve hosted more people this weekend than I’ve done all my life in Bangalore!

Anyhow, that’s sufficient round-up on those lines.

Tomorrow, I draw closer to discovering my self-worth, possibly in this company. I need all the luck!

10 May

I’m thinking I should take up a new nickname… Mr. Faux Pas. Why? Reproduced below.

I got a facebook alert in my email the other day saying this random ChickFromSchool (CFS) had posted a video on my wall, calling it the “sexiest video ever” but when I went to my wall, there was nothing there.

Thence, the conversation followed:

Never thought I’d see this day in 2010!!!

That’s down from over 1000 unread items, folks 😀 And it was all done right here, in the office (So technically, I got paid for doing it ;-))

Have I missed out on commenting on a post I was expected to? Or not acknowledged any awards? Or tags? Please let me know!

Khan he really do it?

16 Feb

Not only can he do it, he did it!

Yep, am talking about MNIK.

Karan Johar successfully took a brilliant plot, a fantastic storyline and mixed it into one of his melodramatic works that he honestly should’ve left behind in the 20th (more like 19th) century! And I rather doubt he has the right to portray America’s handling of emergencies in such an inefficient fashion. I’d like my American friends to watch the film and tell me if the country is likely to desert victims of a natural disaster when the area is as accessible as it was in the film.

But full credit goes to him for attempting to make a film with as brilliant a concept as the one this had. And full points to him for bringing Kajol and Sharukh on screen together without the chemistry that we always loved and adored. Now I won’t be so eager to see them act next to each other in the future.

All in all, a very, very mediocre film. Enjoyable moments, despicable ones too. I give it 3 on 5.

On a side-note, watching SF was quite a pleasure. Makes me long for being in the US yet again. Though at a more subtle level, I look at how an immigrant from this part of the world is likely to be treated there, and I’m forced to reconsider. Maybe if I could live on Wisteria Lane…

Anyhow, I thought I’d given that a long-needed break… The yearning to move to the States. And then I thought that I’d rather do Europe. And in between all that longing for everything out of reach, I’d told myself that being a first-grade citizen in India was pretty cool too… Yep, I want everything and I’m incapable of being satisfied with what I have. That’s established then. Nothing new there…

Lisez un conversation idiotique

So I was with a college-friend, and the one I meet regularly here so I might as well name him. Hmmm…Vivek. Super-homophobic Vivek who, as destiny has it, is my closest friend in Bangalore at the moment. Yippie.

Now Vivek is living with some seniors from college, most of whom I know but for 2. Those unknown 2 happen to be brothers neither of whose names or faces I know. So when one of them turned up with Vivek yesterday, I was positively confused but for once, I didn’t bother to ask Vivek for the specifics. Vivek however had told me that they’d hosted a wild party for the brothers over a week ago in their apartment (in the midst of several other flats in a family-society), for which they’d promptly been sent a notice of possible eviction in the future, should it be repeated.

Anyway, so yesterday the mysterious third in the group who I had assumed could be one of the brothers, or possibly just another random stranger, politely extended his hand to me and said “Hi, I’m xyz”.
Now I knew for sure that xyz was definitely one of the brothers, but not sure which. I introduced myself, and as a conversation starter, wished him a belated Happy Birthday (hoping he was the brother who had celebrated his birthday) and congratulated him on the wild party they hosted recently. I didn’t really manage to hear his response to that, and we sort of drifted into other conversation.

A little later, however, I wanted to ensure I hadn’t committed a usual faux-pas, took Vivek aside…

Me: Oi, I wished xyz a happy birthday. He is the one for whom you threw the party, right?
Vivek: No, this one is abc, his twin brother.
Me: Oh shit! I don’t believe I did it again! This is so damn typical of me! He must be thinking why I was wishing him a belated birt… Hey wait a minute!!
Vivek: (Looks at me blankly)
Me: Twin brother! Oh yes! Ha ha, I don’t believe I figured that out for myself!

Yes indeed, it’s happening! Unsung is becoming less-denser! Expect a gradual drop in the frequency of such conversations in this blog 🙂
