Whiteflag – When California Shamed

Thoughts that mirrored my own…

Passage of Prop 8 Shames California

Pro-Choice, Anti-Gay

Prop 8 is Winning, Gay Couples Losing in California

Sure the word is final and binding only for now. Sure that it was a consequence of a smear campaign by a malignant group of people. Sure that it will, in the long run, make people question… their own judgements. The misteachings of religion. Sure it will overturn in a few years.
But a few years is a long time.

The blow came today, and sucked every pleasure out of the Obama victory. But I continue to have faith in Californians; no, not the conservative fools tucked away in the rural areas but those college students and urban dwellers who voted against discrimination. Who were not fooled and fumbled by those who peached hate.

At the end of the day, I hope that Prop. 8 strongly divides California, and that the divide is more than explicit. Just so that there is discussion and debate. And so that the culprits of this movement of hate are exposed, and those who voted Yes may realise their error in judgement.

It did suck every pleasure out of the Obama victory. But a lot of the same people who voted for Obama voted for Prop 8.
