This certain news item that caught my attention, has left me positively peeved!
For one, the stand is simply a contradiction with the viewpoints of Health Ministry, NACO and the Prime Minister himself. It unfortunately coincides with that of the Indian junta; no, no the kind that goes into activism et all, but the sort that is ancient in its perspective.
Besides, this comes after weeks of reports of Ramadoss’s supportive comments all the way from Mexico.
Last but not the least, this comment comes at a time when my calendar reads August 2008. That’s right, not August 1908 but August 2008. I suppose inspite of everything, the government still likes to keep its clock a little slow, isn’t it?
I’m sure this wouldn’t have been the case if Kapil Sibal was the law minister. Instead, it’s some old dumpster of a man called HR Bhardwaj, whom I shall henceforth despise.
This is yet one more example that I need to leave this country. No, it isn’t exclusively the lawmakers. The people really aren’t that supportive, on the whole. Tomorrow, when I’m an accomplished individual in some country abroad, and a newspaper from India interviews me on my nationalistic feelings, I can let them have a piece of my mind. That’s the only way, really, to make this nation sit up and notice.

What the fuck is it about really? Why does the government see it just as a this-or-that situation? Section 377 doesn’t have to be removed altogether! Why can’t it just be modified so as to accommodate homosexuals’ interests while still allowing it to be effective against sex crimes involving sodomy! Either we have some very lazy a**holes sitting in positions of authority or no one really wants to accommodate homosexuals’ interests. Given the ways of functioning of our ‘leaders’, both cases are quite plausible.
Do you think when you give that interview things will change? Barka Dutt will do another episode of we the people in which some goddamn jackass would talk about Indian Culture and how homosexuality is a western “phenomenon”.
These relics of the 18th century will not change. There simple, sadistic, stupid minds cannot fathom anything beyond their own selfish self-interest.

Well, if someone who were to become as big as Sabir Bhatia said that he left the country because of its archaic laws, and asked all others to follow, I’m sure the country would definitely take notice!
In the least, the world community would. It would leave a mark.
